The location for this single-family house is an empty hilltop in the middle of the Hollywood Hills. The existing natural state of the hilltop, and the surrounding hillsides are so unique for being so empty and rugged, that we wanted to preserve site in its natural condition.

This is of course impossible because we plan to design and build a house on the lot - however we can build the house INTO the hillside, instead of ON the hillside. The solution is to design a series of stepped volumes that are inserted into the hillside.

The result will be a 'camouflaged' home with very high insulation and natural cooling and the site will retain most of its untouched character.
